It depends on which Rolex you want. Some are easier to get at the AD than others. It helps if you’re celebrating a big milestone and share the reason you want one. If you want a super popular model like a submariner, gmt, Daytona, then go grey it’s probably

Buying my first Rolex?

My biggest regret in my college years was not going to Cancun or Miami with a lot of my friends. You’ll have an opportunity to buy a nicer watch later on in life. Focus on the experiences while you are young. If you do want a “companion” I think some used MB

Right, so you’re thinking about getting a Rolex. Cool. I get it. Status symbol, timeless design, all that jazz. But lemme tell you, jumping into the Rolex game ain’t exactly like picking out a new pair of socks. Especially these days.

First things first, are we talking *actually* buying a Rolex or just dreaming about it? Because there’s a HUGE difference. Look, getting one from an authorized dealer (AD) in a place like NYC? Forget about it. Unless you’ve got a purchase history longer than my arm, and maybe even then, you’re probably SOL. I mean, I’ve heard horror stories. People waiting years for a friggin’ Datejust. Years! That’s just insane.

So, that leaves you with the gray market, right? Places that sell ’em for above retail. Yeah, ouch. Your wallet’s gonna feel that one. But hey, instant gratification, am I right? But honestly, is paying double (or more!) for a Submariner really worth it? I dunno, man. Depends on how bad you want that crown on your wrist. And how much cheddar you’re willing to part with.

Now, I saw one guy on a forum, (yeah, I lurk on those things, don’t judge me) asking about getting a Rolex while in college. My two cents? (Which might be worth less than that, TBH) Maybe chill out on the Rolex for now. That’s just my take, but unless you’re rolling in dough, a Rolex might be a bit much. College is expensive enough!

Seriously, think about it. The guy in the other post had a point. Those college trips? Cancun, Miami, wherever. Those are memories you’ll have forever. A watch is just a watch. (Okay, a *really* nice watch, but still). Plus, you can always buy a Rolex later. You know, after you’ve landed that sweet job and have some actual disposable income.

And if you *really* want a “companion” on your wrist, why not look at a nice used watch? Some of those old Omega Seamasters are absolute bangers and won’t break the bank. Or even a cool Seiko. There’s a whole world of awesome watches out there that aren’t Rolex.
